Punta Lobos
This day we will explore one of the most iconic routes in southern Baja California, hiking a route with impressive cliffs overlooking the ocean where we can admire the humpback whale migration. The route ranges from 5 to 10 km.
From December to March, you have the unique opportunity to see whales from the shore. Gray whales make their annual migration from the Arctic to Baja every winter. That means in the winter you can often see plumes (or “puffs”) coming out of the water, and if you’re lucky, you may even see the whales breaching. This hike is perfect year round.
Hiking Balandra
The Pericú Tribe did not build permanent villages, but instead lived in caves and rock shelters or temporary huts made of branches and reeds. The coastal environment of Balandra, with its coves and natural formations, would have been an ideal location for them to camp and access food from both the sea and the land.
When you walk the trails of Balandra and look out over the bay, you are indeed walking on the ancestral lands of the Pericú people. They were the original stewards of this beautiful and unique landscape.
